iSummation technologies has created a highly customized Document Management Solution for one of the leading Engineering Design compnaies in Europe. Our customized solution has been a success all the way in a set-up where large file sizes and 3rd party software integrations were agonizing problems.
Below are the challenges we were confronted with and the solutions that we had to offer.
Challenges & their solutions
- File Size
One of the primary issues to be addressed in developing the application was that of file sizes. While the majority of the files within the system were less then 100 MB in size, several were much bigger. Because of the inherent web application limitations in the .NET platform, this issue was of primary concern.
Solution: Our DMS solution is designed to handle very large file sizes. While most DMS solutions can handle up to a maximum of 2-3 Mb of data, our solution is built to sore and transport several gigabytes of data
- Interruptions
The application users often upload/download files from remote locations via the Internet, it is critical that the system take into account the issue of interrupted file transfers.
Solution: A resume feature helps overcome the pain of resuming downloads every time the internet connection is disrupted due to any reason. Our DMS is designed in such a way that data transfer resumes at the point that it stopped when the connection is restored.
- Security
The application needed to be secure to ensure that the data transfers over the internet are secure. The user access had to be profile based and IP based in certain cases.
Solution: The security concerns in our solution have been thoroughly addressed. 128 bit encryption has been used in file uploading. This makes sure that your data is safe even if it traverses the internet. The user access related safety measures are given utmost attention. IP based access is also provided.
- Application Integration
The application needed to be integrated with a 3rd party software that is desktop based.
Solution: The application is successfully integrated with the 3rd party tool using web services. The custom DMS solution developed by us can invoke the dektop based application to allow the user to view the heavy files based on her/his access privilleges.
