E-commerce Application Software – Water Purification Product

Client

The client is based in North Carolina and specializes in selling water purification products and systems. The client is a successful name in the industry serving North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia and and serves a wide variety of industries including pharmaceutical, biotech, micro-electronics etc. In order to sell their products and services over the net they wanted an e-commerce web site.

Business Requirements

The client wanted a dynamically functional ColdFusion ecommerce website that would showcase the products that the company sells online. The site would cater the likes of facility managers, plant managers, and engineers. He wanted a professional look and feel. They wanted cookies on the web site and all information collected should go to the admin database. He also wanted two separate admin profiles. He wanted convenient navigation and search options.

Solution

The web site is a ColdFusion e-commerce platform with online payment gateway integration where customers can order and buy products online. For people who need a quote on some customized equipment a separate form is available on the web site. Whenever such a form is submitted the information is fed into the database and an email is sent to the admin.

A library section is incorporated in the web site which has links to various articles, Glossary etc. The Search criterion gives the option of searching by part name, manufacturer or part number. The site is VeriSign secure site.

In order buy a product the customer needs to register on the web site. On logging in the welcome page shows the order history of the customer along with order number and status. The customer can also update/edit his profile from here. In the shopping cart, an option is made available to store the payment type. This saves the customer time as he does have to re-enter the information every time he buy something. Once the customer's order is conformed a confirmation e-mail is mailed to the customer. Once the order is shipped a shipment confirmation mail is sent to the customer. The mail consists of the order information along with a thank you note and a UPS tracking number. The client can enter the tracking number on the website and view the status of his shipped order. This is done by incorporating a UPS tool on the web site.

On the admin side two separate profiles are created, the first is the admin with complete access and control, and the other for the Shipper, with access only to orders and shipping information. The admin can add product images and descriptions, add product categories and sub-categories, view all stored user information, view all orders placed, and open orders. Only the Admin is able to view payment information, stored payment information, and cookie tracking. The shipper is able to view all order and shipping information, mark orders as "shipped" or "back-ordered" or "out-of-stock", When the Shipper marks an item as "shipped", a shipping confirmation email will automatically generate and be sent to the customer.
