The client is one of the leading car and truck rental companies in Canada. They are operating over 300 locations and are market leaders in the car rental segment. The corporate team comprises of a combination of corporate and franchise operations.
The client needed a overhaul of a ColdFusion based software for online car/truck rental and booking. The web application was also the web based platform for all the partners and promotion management. One of the biggest challenges was that the database for the application was already being used by multiple in-house applications and the new site was supposed use the same database without disturbing its sanctity.
Our Solution
With a very tight deadline at hand our team worked very hard for putting the system in place in a very short duration of time. Our expert ColdFusion developer teams developed the online car rental web based software application for the client. The application allows the users to make, modify or cancel reservations online.
By selecting the pick-up location and time details, the user are able to view all the vehicle options based on their selection criteria. There are several rate types that are applicable like internet rate, special promotions, corporate rates etc. In case specific rate code is entered, the vehicle and price options will be displayed accordingly.
Reservations
The reservations for vehicles are done online by simply registering on to the website. The site banners and scheme promotions vary geographically based on the location and rate scheme selected by the user.
If at any time during the vehicle selection process, a user moves to a different page, a synopsis of selection steps is displayed on the left panel. A small edit button is placed next to each so that the user can make changes at that step.
Data Updates
The car rental software application constantly updates the vehicle availability information from a central database that is accessed by multiple legacy applications. All registration information is stored in session variables till the time the user clicks the ‘Checkout’ button. Only at this time the data is entered into the database.
Special schemes
If the user has a special discount code, when he enters it, only the participating locations will be displayed in his locations. Several types of promotional schemes can be set like weekend, weekday, weekly rental rates. Additional promotional concessions are applied as per selection. The web based car rental software application handles all the complex variables involved in rate calculations with precision and efficiency.
Bidding for fares
A special scheme is offered in which the users can bid for a fare of their choice. If the bid price is equal to or greater that a price set in the database, the user will be able to rent the car on the rate he bid for. Once a bid has been accepted it cannot be retraced and no modifications in the vehicle can be made.
Multilingual website
The car rental software application is made available in several language options. The coding and database have been optimized to maximize performance of this ColdFusion application in multi-user environment..
