PayPal is one of the most efficient payment gateways for handling a recurring payment and billing for services or products that are charged in the regular payments cycles. Every time a user registers for the recurring billing cycle a profile is created in PayPal which is called the “Recurring payments profile”.
This profile contains all information regarding the recurring payment:
- Free trial period if any
- The regular payments period
- Payment frequency
- Amount of payment
- Taxation if any
- Shipping charges if any
Based on this profile created, PayPal automatically debits these payments from the user PayPal account based on the start date, end date and frequency. This process goes on till the profile expires or other profile is cancelled by the vendor or the subscriber.
Technically the PayPal API allows the programmer to get information regarding the recurring payment profiles, change the status of these profiles and update the details in these profiles.
The recurring payments can be managed through almost all products of PayPal. We have integrated recurring payments functionality in the following PayPal products:
- Website payments pro – currently available only in U.S. UK and Canada
- PayPal express checkout – available across the world
