Catching Insurance Gaps Before They Become Problems: AI Document Verification
Manual, error-prone review of contractor insurance documents, solved with AI-powered verification of insurance certificates against required coverage rules.
We implemented an AI-powered verification layer that reviews each contractor's uploaded insurance document and submitted information against the required coverage rules automatically.
The Challenge
Before a contractor can be approved to work, their insurance has to check out, the right document, the right coverage types, and liability limits that meet the minimum requirement. In practice, that meant an employee manually reviewing every submitted insurance certificate: reading through the document, cross-checking it against the required coverage options, and verifying the liability amount met the threshold.
Done by hand, this review was slow and, more importantly, inconsistent. A missed line item or an overlooked coverage gap could slip through simply because manual review is only as reliable as the person doing it in that moment, and every contractor's certificate needed the same careful scrutiny, regardless of how many were waiting in the queue.
The Solution
Employees only need to review the certificates the AI has flagged, and can go straight to the contractor to resolve the specific issue identified.
Document and Data Check
When a contractor uploads their insurance document and fills in the related information, the AI verifies the correct document has been submitted and the entered information is accurate.
DOCUMENT CHECK · DATA MATCHCoverage Validation
The AI checks whether the certificate includes all mandatory coverage options required for approval.
COVERAGE RULESLiability Threshold Check
The AI confirms the insurance meets the minimum required liability amount.
THRESHOLD CHECKAutomatic Flagging
Any certificate with missing coverage, an insufficient liability amount, or a document/data mismatch is automatically flagged, everything else passes through without needing manual review.

Results
- Insurance certificate review: from fully manual, every submission, to automated verification, every submission. Reduced manual review workload, employees now focus only on the certificates that actually need attention.
- Employee review workload: from reviewing all certificates to reviewing only flagged exceptions. Fewer compliance gaps slipping through, since every certificate is checked against the same rules consistently.
- Risk of human error: from present in every manual review to reduced by consistent automated rule-checking. Faster contractor approval turnaround, as clean certificates no longer wait in a manual review queue.
- Issue identification: from found during manual read-through, if at all, to automatically identified and flagged with reason. More efficient follow-up, employees can go straight to resolving the problem with the contractor instead of re-reviewing the whole document.
